2016 - Symphony in Strings - A Study in Strings - Day 3

I started out today's tile with a black Sharpie fine point pen.  The two round figures began as Jetties and morphed into Purk and Onomato/Paradox.  I also drew Knase, Tipple, and Florz. This tile really took on a life of its own.

Here is Day 2 in the Study in Strings.  Today I used a Sharpie fine point pen to draw Sez, Cadent, Paradox, Twilight, Cubine, and Fracas.

2016 - A String Symphony - A Study in Strings - Day 1

On Facebook there is a group called "Zentangle All Around."  The owner of the group has suggested "a string symphony" for 2016.  Every Wednesday she will post a series of seven string patterns, one for each day of the week.  Beginning on Friday, members will create a Zentangle from the string pattern.  

I plan to participate as much as I can.  I created the piece of art above for today.  I posted it on the "Zentangle All Around" group page and decided to go ahead and post it here.

I used Crescent Moon, Hypnotic, Hollibaugh, Fescu, Tipple, and Fedr patterns.  I used a Sharpie fine point black pen.

Diva Weekly Zentangle Challenge #248 - "Give the Gift of Zentangle"

The final Diva Weekly Zentangle Challenge of 2015 is to "give the gift of Zentangle."  Below are two Zentangle inspired pieces of art ("ZIA") I am giving to my hair stylist, Jesha, along with a holiday card, a Starbucks gift card, and a treat bag with chocolate truffles, fudge, tea bags, and candy inside.  She always takes such good care of my hair all year long . . . and puts up with me.  I hope she likes it.  If not, she can give it all back, because I like it!!

The ZIA above is composed of Squid, Florz, and Fescu drawn on 4" x 4" watercolor paper  (140 lbs.) with a black Sharpie fine point pen.

The ZIA above is composed of Starawn drawn on 2" x 4" watercolor paper (140 lbs.) with a blue Sharpie fine point pen.  This size is to be used as a bookmark.

I originally purchased the pad of watercolor paper that was 4" x 6" and 140 lbs.  I wanted to use a square for practicing Zentangle patterns.  I decided to cut off 2 inches and use a 4-inch square.  I saved the 2-inch pieces I cut off and decorated them to give as bookmarks. So all in all, I was able to use all of the paper with no waste!!  Yeah!!

Zentangle Holiday Stocking

All of us, at the public library where I work, decorated a paper stocking to hang on the bulletin board for a holiday display.  Of course, I had to be different and use Zentangle patterns on my stocking rather than cutouts of paper and stick-on letters, trees, and snowflakes.  I stapled it to the bulletin board yesterday morning.

Above is a photograph of what it looks like.  I used Cadent, Crescent Moon, and 'Nzeppel for the major portions of the stocking.  For the top I used Quibble for my name and Florz for the background behind my name.

Diva Weekly Zentangle Challenge #247 - UMT - African Artist

This week's challenge was the "Use My Tangle."  The pattern chosen was "African Artist.  This is the second time I have drawn this pattern.  The first time I drew it was back in October of this year.

In my entry, I also included Cadent, Tipple, Fedr, and Fescu.  Unfortunately, this time the African Artist looks more like Isochor.  Hmmmm.  It also looks like a jumbled mess.  If it was not so late in the week, I would draw another tile.  But I have to work tomorrow and I doubt I would get anything completed by tomorrow night.

The Diva's Weekly Zentangle Challenge #246 - Monotangle Trees

This week's challenge is a guest post from Dilip Patel, the first Certified Zentangle Teacher from India.  He asks everyone "to choose any tangle pattern of your liking and create a tree using only the chosen tangle over strings representing a tree."  In his post, he states he wants us to "create Zentangle Forests" and "there could be no better thanks giving process towards Nature."

I decided to use the Onamato pattern for my tree.  I used one of the new black Strathmore 400 Series Artist Tiles I purchased a few weeks ago.  The tiles are actually 6 inch x 6 inch (15.3 cm x 15.3 cm) 60 lb paper.  I cut them into 3 inch x 3 inch (7.62 cm x 7.62 cm) squares, a little smaller than the traditional 3.5 inch x 3.5 inch (8.9 cm x 8.9 cm) Zentangle tiles, but they work well for me.  I used a Sakura Gelly Roll 08 pen.

Yeah!!  This is my second challenge in a row.  I hope this is the start of a new habit.

This is my entry into "The Diva's Weekly Zentangle Challenge No. 245" featuring the Zentangle pattern "Hollibaugh."  I did add Crescent Moon, Cubine, and Isochor patterns.  These just happen to be a few of my favorite patterns and some of the ones I started working with when I began tangling back in March of this year.
